- Built to test you at the right level. Twenty adaptive questions find your level, then reading and listening test you at it rather than around it. The final score comes from four objective skills marked on our servers.
- It agrees with your real level 85% of the time. Measured on 20,000 simulated candidates walking the live routing. When it misses, it is as likely to place you low as high, which is what stops an exam flattering the people who pay for it.
- Anyone can check it. Every certificate is issued by our servers and gets its own page at /certificate, so the person you send it to can verify it without asking us.
Exam conditions and what this is notRead before you start
Read these before you start. Starting means you agree to them.
- A clock on every question, one on every part except the writing, and a 90-minute clock over the whole exam. If a clock runs out, the answer you picked is kept and the exam moves on.
- Part 4 has no clock. The exam clock stops while you write, so take the time you need.
- Leaving the tab is recorded. Doing it often flags the attempt for review.
- You cannot select, copy or paste, including in the writing editor.
- Part 5 needs a microphone. It is on only while you record.
- Nothing is lost. Close the page or lose your connection, and everything picks up where it stopped.
- Four skills are marked on our servers. Grammar, vocabulary, reading and listening are scored against a key your browser never receives. Writing and speaking responses stay with your attempt. You start without paying; after the last part, $3 unlocks the detailed result and covers two attempts.

It is not an accredited or officially recognised qualification, it is not equivalent to IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge or any state examination, and no university, employer or immigration authority is obliged to accept it. Is this an English proficiency certificate that universities or visa offices accept?
It records the CEFR level you showed on this exam, and anyone can check it on its own web page. It is not an accredited qualification, and no university, employer or immigration office has to accept it. If an application names IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Cambridge or the Duolingo English Test, sit that exam. Use this certificate where a checkable level helps, such as a CV, a LinkedIn profile or a job application.

How much does it cost, and how many attempts do I get?
You can start and finish the exam without paying. After the last part, $3 unlocks your detailed result and covers two graded attempts. The second opens 14 days after the first. The refund policy explains what happens if something goes wrong.

What does the certificate show?
Your overall CEFR level, from A1 to C2, and a separate band for grammar, vocabulary, reading and listening. Those four parts are marked on our servers against a key your browser never receives. Your writing and speaking responses stay with the attempt.

How is it different from a free online English test with a certificate?
Many free tests mark your answers inside your browser, cover only grammar or reading, and print a level whatever the evidence. This exam covers listening and writing too, finds your level before it tests you there, and says so when your answers do not show a clear level. Can I add it to my CV or LinkedIn?
Yes. Every certificate has its own page with a link you can share, and that page has a button that adds it to your LinkedIn profile. Describe it as an assessment result from Virtuous English Academy, not as an accredited or official qualification.

What do I need before I start?
An account, a quiet place, a stable connection and a microphone for the speaking part. The timed parts take up to 90 minutes, and the writing part has no clock. If your connection drops, the exam picks up where it stopped.
