The natural continuation. A2 assumes the present tenses and the basic past are secure, and builds the rest of the time system on top of them.

Learners who can talk about now but not about then

If you can describe your routine but stall when asked about last year or next month, A2 is exactly the level you need.

Travellers and new arrivals

A2 covers the language of appointments, transport, health, accommodation and problems — the situations that actually come up abroad.

Step 1 — Twenty modules, three steps each

Sixty steps in total, each one short enough to finish in a single sitting. Modules group related grammar so the connections are visible.

Step 2 — Time before everything else

The past, the futures and the present perfect come first, because they are what unlock storytelling, planning and giving news.

Step 3 — Reading that carries the load

Every module closes with graded reading that reuses the module's grammar, so structures are met in context dozens of times.

Step 4 — A multi-part final project

Rather than a single quiz, A2 ends with a project combining reading, grammar and writing — closer to how the language is actually assessed.

Should I take A1 or A2 first?

If you already know the basics of English, start at A2. If you are unsure, the free placement test will place you correctly.

Yes, the entire A2 learning path is free — every module, game and story, with no payment at any stage.

What comes after A2?

You can continue building with our B1 and B2 grammar and vocabulary resources while more course levels are added.

What does A2 actually mean?

A2 is the second CEFR level, usually called elementary. At A2 you can handle routine exchanges about familiar topics, describe your background and immediate surroundings, and talk about the past and future in simple terms.

How long does the A2 course take?

There are 60 steps across 20 modules, roughly 24 hours of study. At a step a day that is about two months; at three steps a day, under three weeks. Your progress is saved, so an interrupted week costs you nothing.

What is the difference between A1 and A2 grammar?

A1 gets you into the present and a first look at the past simple. A2 widens the time frames: past continuous, used to, going to and will, the present perfect, and comparatives — the structures that let you tell a story rather than list facts.

Is there a final exam?

A2 ends with a final project rather than a single multiple-choice exam, because at this level producing language matters more than recognising it.
