The curriculum blends three strands — grammar, vocabulary and reading — in every unit, and each level ends with an exam or a final project. You begin with a free placement test that sends you to the right starting point.

What you'll learn

The free English course by CEFR level: A1 has 27 grammar topics and 1,620 exercises, A2 has 31 grammar topics and 1,860 exercises, B1 has 18 grammar topics and 1,080 exercises, B2 has 14 grammar topics and 840 exercises. The course runs from A1 to B2.
The whole course, level by level. 90 grammar topics and 5,400 exercises, all free — and it stops at B2, because that is where the lessons stop.

How the course works

Step 1 — Sequenced, not sampled

Topics appear in dependency order. The present continuous comes after the present simple; the present perfect comes after the past simple. Order is the whole point.

Step 2 — Three strands in every unit

Grammar, vocabulary and reading are interleaved rather than blocked, because interleaving produces better retention than studying one strand at a time.

Step 3 — Assessment at both ends

A placement test at the start prevents wasted weeks; an exam or project at the end confirms the level.

How is the course structured?

It is a step-by-step progress tree. Each step unlocks the next, and each unit combines a grammar lesson, vocabulary practice and a reading review.

Can I study just grammar or vocabulary?

Yes. Alongside the course you can use our free grammar lessons (A1–B2) and vocabulary lists (A1–C1) on their own.

Is there a test at the end?

Each level ends with an exam or a final project. If you want a certificate recording your CEFR level, complete our certified exam and pay $3 after the last part to unlock the result.

Why are the topics in this particular order?

Each structure depends on the one before it. The present continuous is taught after the present simple because the contrast between them is the point; the present perfect comes after the past simple for the same reason. Teaching them in a different order forces learners to memorise what they could otherwise understand.

How many hours is the whole syllabus?

Roughly 40 hours across both levels — about 20 for A1 and 24 for A2 including revision. That is a realistic figure for reaching elementary from scratch, not a marketing number.

Can I skip units I already know?

The path unlocks in order so nothing is missed, but the placement test at the start decides where you enter. If you already know A1, it sends you to A2 rather than making you repeat it.

Can teachers use this syllabus with a class?

Yes. The unit-by-unit breakdown above is deliberately public so a teacher can map it onto a scheme of work, and every grammar lesson and vocabulary list is free to use with students.

Does the syllabus follow the CEFR?

It covers the core grammar and functional language the CEFR specifies for A1 and A2. The certificate our placement exam issues records your progress on this site and is not an accredited qualification — see the note above.
